How To Choose a Blogging Niche [Beginners Guide]

How To Choose a Blog Topic

Are you planning to start a blog?

Do you want to become a pro blogger and make a living from blogging itself?

Make no mistake blogging can be a highly paid skill if done correctly.

If lets you have time as well as financial freedom.

I started my first blog in 2014 and the journey since then has been absolutely fantastic.

Learnt a lot of new things, what to do and what not to do!

So talking about your blog I can certainly say one thing that if you fail to choose the right topic or niche for your blog then you won’t succeed in this field.

The amount of success that your blog will get completely depends on the topic that you choose.

When choosing a blog niche or topic there are three main things that you should look at:

How To Choose a Blog Topic:

  1. Passion
  2. Market
  3. Talent

1. Passion

If you want something to do for a long term then you need to have passion for that thing.

If you are planning to start a blog just because you saw other do and become successful and expect to get the same results then you will fail.

Let’s say you start a blog and also start making good income from it, but that itself won’t help you to keep you motivated.

But if you have a passion for blogging then you will keep doing it no matter what obstacles you face in the path.

I started my first blog back in 2014.

I started this smartphone review blog because I was extremely passionate about blogging and tech in general.

I build that blog from scratch and sold it in 2018 for some nice profit and moved on to bigger things.

So when you want to start a blog, one thing that you should ask yourself whether you are passionate about the topic or not?

But having just passion is not enough there are other two aspects that you should also be looking at.

2. Market

If you want to start a business and make good profit then you need to create content or product that is in demand and people want.

If you are passionate about something an you have a product related to it that itself won’t make you money if there is no market or audience that is willing to spend money on it.

Assume you have a passion for making home made crab cakes, those won’t sell if there are people who want to buy it.

That would be a complete business failure.

So always remember your passion enough won’t pay your bills unless there are people who are willing to pay for it.

Blog Niche 3 Things To Look at

So the question here is how do you know or find out whether there is a demand in the market or not?

The only thing I can say is do research and gather as much information as you can.

One way you can do is using keyword research.

Go to Semrush. It is a premium keyword research tool.

Enter your keyword that your business represents.

Suppose I have want to start a blog about ‘Tennis’.

Search for that term in Semrush and see how much traffic that topic is generating and how much people are spending on advertising in that category.

Tennis Keyword Overview

So as you can see people are spending good amount of money in this category for advertising that means that there is a strong demand for content and products in this niche.

So if you are passionate about Tennis then you can start a blog on this topic.

3. Talent

This is one of the most important factor to make or build a successful blog.

Let’s say you have a strong passion about Tennis and there surely is a market for tennis related content and products.

But you do not know how to write or create content on that topic to bring visitors or build a loyal audience.

Then you can go nowhere with your blog.

But you do not need to worry, writing or creating highly engaging content is a skill that you can learn and perfect over time.

So keep creating and perfecting your content all through out your blogging journey.

Remember blogging is not a get quick rich scheme in any way or sort.

If you want to be a successful blogger then you have to be in this for a long haul.

Plan things ahead of time, create strategies that will make you content accessible to maximum people.

All I can say is hope you got an idea of what you need to do if you want to build a blog that won’t fail and make good money from it.

All the best for your blogging journey!
